Því ritaði hann um lǫstu þá, er verða mega í málinu, at sá einn má mæla eða yrkja fagrliga, er hann veit bæði lof ok lǫst á málinu, sem mælt er, malum non vitatur nisi cognitum, eigi má illan lǫst varaz nema hann sé fyrri kendr.
(He wrote about the faults of speech because only he who knows both the virtues and faults of discoiurse can speak or write verses beautifully, as is said ‘Málum non vitatur nisi cognitum’. )
