Halldórr (HalldR) is described as maðr sygnskr ‘a man from Sogn (western Norway)’ in ÓH (1941, II, 741), but nothing is otherwise known of him. This lausavísa is the only verse composition ascribed to him.

In this eight-line fornyrðislag stanza (HalldR Lv), the skald calls on a woman for a drink, adding that Óláfr Haraldsson (r. 1015-30) saddled a he-goat for his stepfather to ride. The stanza is embedded in a tale of a hunting jaunt involving King Óláfr and Halldórr (see Context below), and is dated c. 1006 in Skj. It is found in three interpolated texts of ÓH, at differing points: 61 (here the main ms.), Flat and the partly lost Bæjarbók á Rauðasandi (Bæb), here represented by the transcripts 73aˣ, 71ˣ and 76aˣ. The three transcripts are sufficiently independent for them all to be used below.
