The title of this ljóðaháttr fragment, Hafliðamál ‘The Speeches of Hafliði’ (Anon Hafl), is given in TGT (mss A (main ms.) and W). According to Björn Magnússon Ólsen (TGT 1884, 185-6), the title and subject-matter of the half-stanza (apparently a scene at the alþingi) seem to indicate that the specific subject is the legal dispute between Hafliði Másson and Þorgils Oddason in c. 1120, as recorded in Sturlunga saga (Stu). See Note to l. 1 for further discussion. Both Björn Magnússon Ólsen (TGT 1884, 185-6) and Finnur Jónsson (TGT 1927, 95-6) discuss the interpretation of this fragment at length.
