Lofsæll, ungr Óláfr inn góði varð fyrstr at missa líf. Skatnar môttu njóta {þess sonar Magnúss} skamma stund.
The glorious, young Óláfr inn góði (‘the Good’) was the first to lose his life. People were able to enjoy {that son of Magnús} [= Óláfr] for a short time.

Notes: [All]: Óláfr Magnússon died of an illness in Trondheim on 22 December 1115 when he was 17 or 18 years old. He was buried in Kristkirken. See Theodoricus (MHN 64), Ágr (ÍF 29, 47), Mork 1928-32, 337, Fsk (ÍF 29, 320), MsonaHkr (ÍF 28, 257). — [4] líf (n. acc. sg.) ‘life’: Note that the verb missa ‘lose’ here is construed with the acc. rather than with the gen. case, which is more usual.
