Then Sveinn, the son of Ælfgifu, ruled the country for {six distresses of snakes}, [WINTERS] before {Knútr’s son} [= Sveinn] had to flee friendless from the kingdom.

notes: Sveinn (d. 1035) was the son of Knútr inn ríki Sveinsson (Cnut the Great) and his concubine, Ælfgifu (Álfífa) of Northampton (see Campbell 1971). He ruled Norway from 1029 until he fled to Denmark in 1035 after Magnús Óláfsson’s return from Russia.
