Bauð Óláfr
austr fyr Nesjum
snarpa sókn
Sveini jarli.
Varð liðfár
lǫnd at flýja
sigri sviptr
sonr Hôkonar.

Óláfr offered Sveinn jarl a fierce fight east off Nesjar. {The poorly supported son of Hákon} [= Sveinn] was forced to flee the lands, deprived of victory.

notes: The battle at Nesjar off the coast of Brunlanes in southern Norway (see Note to Ív Sig 24/2), took place on 3 April 1015. Sveinn fled to his father-in-law Óláfr sœnski in Sweden. He harried in Russia and died of an illness either in Sweden or in Russia. See Theodoricus (MHN 28), Ágr (ÍF 29, 26), Fsk (ÍF 29, 174-8), ÓTHkr (ÍF 27, 58-67, 71).
