Glorious Virgin, proven true to God and man, grant true expiation of sins, although we offend against him. And may the souls indeed be able to see your son, the joyous Saviour, beyond life’s measure; grant us that.

Skj B emends veittu ‘grant’ (l. 1) to vertu ‘be’ and sanna (f. acc. sg.) ‘true’ to sannan (m. acc. sg.) ‘true’ and construes the first cl. as follows: Vertu sannreynd yfirbót syndavið sannan guð og mann, translating Vær sandhetsprøvet syndshelbredelsehos den sande gud og menneske ‘Be a truly tested sin-expiation … with the true God and man’ (so also Skald). — [3] meyin ‘Virgin’: Meyjan ‘Virgin’ (so 713) is unmetrical; see Note to 16/8 above. — [6] fyrir mál lífs ‘beyond life’s measure’: This means ‘after death’ (see also NN §3364).
