‘Veitum lof,’ kvað göfugur gætir
góðra klerka, ‘dróttins móður;
lærðir menn og lýða ferðir,
laugum brár og kinnr í tárum.
Mætust, bið eg, mier skuli veita
móðir dróttins alt góða
jungfrú glödd, er Jésús fæddi,
enn lýsa heiminn þenna.’

Let us give praise {to the mother of the Lord},’ [= Mary] said {the glorious guardian of good clerics}; [BISHOP = Augustine] ‘learned men and crowds of people, let us wash eyelashes and cheeks in tears. I ask that {the most magnificent mother of the Lord}, [= Mary] the joyous Virgin who gave birth to Jesus, should grant me everything good, yet again to illuminate this world.’
