‘Föstudaginn með frægum Kristi
fyst rieð eg við tveimur systrum
mínum og svá Magdaléna
Máría fylgja dróttni várum.
Guðs son er til dráps og dauða
dæmdi Pilátus lýðs vilja,
Júðar leiddu hann og hæddu
hlógu og glödduz; þar með slógu.

On Friday [lit. fast-day] next to famous Christ I first decided to follow our Lord with my two sisters and so also Mary Magdalene. When Pilate sentenced {the son of God} [= Christ] to execution and death at the wish of the people, the Jews led him away and mocked him, laughed and rejoiced; in addition, they beat him.

notes: [1-4]: Cf. Mar (1871, xvi): þar voro oc þa i hia mér minar kiærozto systr miog grátandi. millum hverra er var Maria Magdalena ‘there were then also next to me my most beloved sisters who wept ardently, among whom was Mary Magdalene’. — [5-8]: Cf. Mar (1871, xvi): ec sá hann sleginn með hnefvmhæddan oc halldinn sem annarra manna haðung mꜳ mest vera oc brigzli ‘I saw him hit with fists … mocked and held in such a way that must be the most humiliation and scorn to other men’.
