Várum reiðir,         þá er randberendr

Réðum eignaz         allar gerðar

Várum reiðir, þá er hittum {hoska randberendr} fyr Hólmsnesi. Réðum eignaz allar gerðar snyrtidrengja af sex skipum.

We were angry when we encountered {wise shield-bearers} [WARRIORS] before Hólmsnes. We got hold of all the armour of the fine fellows from six ships.

Notes: [All]: This stanza appears to relate to the same incident as Oddr boasts about in his mannjafnaðr ‘comparison of men’ with Sigurðr and Sjólfr (Ǫrv 44/1-4), while the second half of Ǫrv 44 covers the same incident as Ǫrv 100 (see below). In both cases there is mention of six ships, described as hábrynjuð ‘armoured’ in 44/3 and the encounter is said to take place off an otherwise unknown headland named Hólmsnes, which is not mentioned in the prose text. It is assumed that the use of the adj. ho(r)ska ‘wise’ (l. 3) and the cpd snyrtidrengr ‘fine fellow’ (l. 7) is intended to be ironic.
