Tóku þeir brás Buðla
ok brugðu til knífi,
áðr odds kenndi;
tóm léz að eiga,
teðja vel garða,
vinna ið vergasta
ef hann við rétti;
feginn léz þó Hjalli
að hann fjör þægi. (eddic or germanic)
(They took Budli’s scullion and took out their knives,
the wicked slave howled before he felt the point;
said he’d have the time to dung the fields for them,
do the filthiest work, if that would get him out of it;
Hialli said he’d be very glad if he could keep his life.
