Hræddr var hvergætir,
helta in lengr rúmi,
kunni klekkr verða,
kleif í rá hverja;
vesall léz vígs þeira
er skyldi váss gjalda
ok sinn dag dapran
að deyja frá svínum,
allri örkostu
er hann áðr hafði.   (eddic or germanic)

(The kettle-minder was terrified, he didn’t stay in his place,
he knew how to be pusillanimous, he scrambled into every cranny;
said he was a wretched victim of their violence, that he had to pay for travail,
said it was a dark day to have to die and leave his pigs,
and all the fine provisions that he’d enjoyed before.
