Því að hánum Guðrún
grýmir ábeð
snörpum eggjum
af sárum hug.
Sæmri væri Guðrún,
systir okkur
frumver sínum
ef hendi gæfi
góðra ráð
eða ætti hon hug
oss um líkan.   (eddic or germanic)

(For Gudrun will smear their bed with blood,
by means of sharp sword-edges, from her wounded heart.
‘It would be more fitting for our sister Gudrun
to follow her first husband in death,
if she were given good advice
or if she had a spirit like mine.
