Styrr ok Ári,
Steinn ok Kári,
Vöttr, Véseti,
Vémundr, Hnefi.
Vér á einn bekk
allir sátum,
teitir ok reifir;
því em ek trauðr flugar.

Styrr and Ári, Steinn and Kári, Vǫttr, Véseti, Vémundr, Hnefi. We all occupied a single bench, merry and cheerful; that is why I am reluctant to flee.

context: This stanza is the fourth of a roll-call of Hjálmarr’s former drinking mates.

notes: [3]: The names of Vǫttr and Véseti occur in legendary sources associated with Sweden and Denmark. Vǫttr ‘Mitten’ is mentioned in Þjóð Yt 15/10I as one of the Danish king Fróði’s jarls in his invasion of Sweden during the reign of the Yngling king Óttarr, who died in Denmark (see Note to Ǫrv 29/7 below). Véseti is the name of a ruler of Bornholm according to Jvs, but véseti ‘Inhabitant of a sanctuary’ (cf. AEW: Véseti) also occurs as a nickname (ONP: véseti).
