notes: [3, 4]: The two verbs in these lines, biða
and kaupa, appear in the mss as biði and kaupi, with C14th endings of the 1st pers. pres. subj. of,
respectively, biðja ‘beg, request’
and kaupa ‘bargain, buy’. These have
been normalized to forms suitable to the period 1250-1300 in accordance with the
procedures of the rest of this volume. — [7-8]: Skj B and Skald emend to ok þeim Húnum | herboð inna ‘and perform the war-summons to the Huns’. This seems to be partly based on Verelius’ emendation of R715ˣ’s problematic reading, Oc þeim Hunum | Herbod bioda (Heiðr 1672) ‘and offer the war-summons to the Huns’, but both mss have herlið ‘war-troop’ and 203ˣ’s reading gives good sense as it stands.
