Mey veit ek Heiðreks,         …
systur þína,         svigna til jarðar.
Hafa Húnar         hana felda,
ok marga aðra         yðra þegna.

Ek veit mey Heiðreks, … systur þína, svigna til jarðar. Húnar hafa felda hana, ok marga aðra þegna yðra.

I know Heiðrekr’s girl, … your sister, to have sunk to the earth. The Huns have felled her, and many others of your men.

Mss: 203ˣ(111v), R715ˣ(34r) (Heiðr)

Readings: [4] svigna: ‘singna’ R715ˣ    [8] ra: ‘ydar’ R715ˣ

Editions: Skj: Anonyme digte og vers [XIII], E. 5. Vers af Fornaldarsagaer: Af Hervararsaga VII 3: AII, 254, BII, 273-4, Skald II, 143, NN §§3144, 3186; Heiðr 1672, 173, FSN 1, 499, Heiðr 1873, 279, Heiðr 1924, 150, FSGJ 2, 61-2, Heiðr 1960, 53-4; Edd. Min. 7-8, NK 308, ÍF Edd. II, 425-6.

Notes: [2]: Metrically, there must be something missing here, but neither ms. gives any indication either of what it may be or of a gap. All previous eds have made suggestions, but all are conjecture. — [4] svigna ‘to have sunk’: Lit. ‘sunk’. Svigna is an inflected (f. acc. sg.) p. p. of the first class strong verb *svíga ‘sink’, which is only attested in the p. p. The construction is acc.-inf. — [7] marga aðra ‘many others’: Kock (Skald; NN §3144) prefers for metrical reasons, but against ms. evidence, to reverse the word order.
