Hár giefr hjálpir …
heims valdr kyni beima,
Kristr og miskunn mesta,
meginteitum, … veitir.
Lýtr öll veröld ítri
yfirþjóðkonungs móður;
verð er drottning dýrðar
dæmd til efri sæmdar.

{Hár valdr heims} giefr {meginteitum kyni beima} hjálpir … og Kristr veitir mesta miskunn. Öll veröld lýtr {ítri móður yfirþjóðkonungs}; drottning dýrðar er dæmd verð til efri sæmdar.

{The high ruler of the world} [= God] gives {the very glad kinsfolk of men} [MANKIND] … helps … and Christ grants the greatest mercy. The whole world bows down before {the glorious mother of the supreme king <= God>} [= Mary]; the queen of glory is adjudged worthy of very high honour.

Editions: Skj: [Anonyme digte og vers XIV], [B. 1]. En drape om jomfru Maria (Máríudrápa) 27: AII, 469, BII, 502, Skald II, 274; Rydberg 1907, 37, 56, Attwood 1996a, 109, 310.

Notes: [1] : Rydberg (1907, 37 n. 6) reconstructs stórar f. acc. pl. ‘great’, which he construes with hjálpir ‘helps’ (l. 1). He is followed by Skj B and Skald. — [2] heims valdr kyni beima: This l. is very similar to Has 20/6 (repeated at 25/6 and 30/6): heims valdr sem kyn beima. The God-kenning valdr heims ‘ruler of the world’ recalls valdr himna ‘ruler of the heavens’ in Geisl 63/2, Pl 19/6 and Lil 32/2. — [5-8]: Repetition of the third stef (also at sts 9 and 18) is indicated by an obelos in the right margin at 14r/19.
