Snækollr Gunnason (Snæk)
13th century; volume 2; ed. Kari Ellen Gade;
Lausavísa (Lv) - 1
Snækollr (Snæk) was one of Skúli Bárðarson’s district chieftains who were captured by the Birkibeinar in 1239. He is likely to be identical with Snækollr Gunnason from Orkney, who is mentioned earlier in Hák (see LH 1894-1901, II, 29). If so, his mother was Ragnhildr, the daughter of Eiríkr stagbrellr ‘Stay-teaser’ (?) and Ingigerðr (or Ingiríðr), the daughter of Jarl Rǫgnvaldr Kali Kolsson (Rv). Snækollr left Orkney after having participated in the killing of Jarl Jón Haraldsson (see E 1916, 558-60; Flat 1860-8, III, 103-5). He is not listed in Skáldatal, and the lv. below is the only poetry attributed to him.

I shall never, though I may live forever, ask for a governorship in Sunnmøre, because my enemies brought me from there to Bergen at the bidding of the lord.
