Glygg-Freyr Gǫndlar veggjar.

{{{Gǫndlar veggjar} glygg}-Freyr}.

{The Freyr <god> {of the storm {of Gǫndul’s <valkyrie’s> wall}}} [(lit. ‘Gǫndul’s wall’s storm-Freyr’) SHIELD > BATTLE > WARRIOR].

Mss: papp25ˣ(39v), R683ˣ(134v)

Readings: [1] Gǫndlar: gǫndla papp25ˣ, R683ˣ

Editions: Skj: Rǫgnvaldr jarl og Hallr Þórarinsson, Háttalykill 41b: AI, 528, BI, 508, Skald I, 249; Hl 1941, 31, 98-9.

Context: As st. 81 above.

Notes: [All]: The mss contain only this line. Before the line in papp25ˣ, Rugman has written Plura desiderantur ‘More are lost’, and in R683ˣ he added multa desunt ‘many are missing’. In papp25ˣ, this line is followed by st. 69 (see Introduction above). — [1] Gǫndlar (f. gen. sg.) ‘of Gǫndul’s <valkyrie’s>’: Gǫndla (m. gen. pl.) ‘of magic wands’ or ‘of phalli’ makes no sense in the present context. For the possible loss of final ‑r, see Note to st. 5/2. For the valkyrie Gǫndul, see Note to Þul Valkyrja 2/1.
