 Dyggva ‘of Dyggvi’: The prince’s name was probably a nickname meaning ‘the Good, the Doughty’, out of which an independent pers. n. developed. Whether conclusions about the prince’s personality are safely drawn on this basis is doubtful (cf. Turville-Petre 1978-9, 64).
