We secgað eac foran to þæt seo boc is swiþe deop gastlice to understandenne, and we ne writaþ na mare buton þa nacedan gerecednisse. Þonne þincþ þam ungelæredum þæt eall þæt andgit beo belocen on þære anfealdan gerecednisse, ac hit ys swiþe feor þam. Seo boc ys gehaten Genesis, þæt ys gecyndboc, for þam þe heo ys firmest boca and spricþ be ælcum gecinde, ac heo ne spricð na be þæra engla gesceapenisse.


Before we also say that the book is very spiritually deep to understand, and we never write more but (than) the bare narrative. Then [it] seems to the unlearned that all that knowledge is locked in that simple narrative, but it is very far from it. The book is called Genesis, that is [the] book of origin, because she (it) is first of the books and speaks about each species, but it never speaks about the creation of angels.
