Antismos má kallaz alt mál, þat er þermlaz alþýðligu orðtaki ok er skrýtt hirðligri málsnild sem Egill kvað:
120. Þat er órétt
ef orpit hefr
á máskeið
mǫrgu gagni
ramriðin
Rǫkkva stóði
vellvanaðr
þat er veitti mér.
Hann kallar slíkt sem á sjó væri kastat fénu, ef hann launar eigi vin sínum góðvilja. Þat er framfæring ok óeiginlig líking milli manns ok sævar.
(
Astaismos may refer to all speech which is not in popular usage and which is embellished with courtly eloquence, as Egill said: [...] He says that it would be like casting wealth into the sea, if he did not reward his friend for his good will; this is a transfer and improper comparison between man and the sea.
