Síneresis er gagnstaðlig díeresí ok gerir eina samstǫfu af tveim sem Sighvatr kvað:
Vask til Róms í haska.
Hér er sett vask fyrir vas ek til þess at hendingar sé jafnhávar.
Synizesis is the opposite to diaeresis, consisting in reducing two syllables to one, as Sighvatr said: [...] Here vask is written for vas ek so that the rhyming syllables are equal.
