Eptasis er gagnstaðlig sistóle ok gerir skamma samstǫfu langa sem fyrr er ritat:
58. Ól torráðin hóla.
Þessi fígúra hefir margar kykvíslir í versum, en í skáldskap er hon sjaldan nema ofljóst sé ort.
Ectasis is the opposite of systole occurring in the lengthening of a short syllable, as has been written above: [...] This figure has many types in (Latin) verses but in (Norse) poetry it is seldom found, except in punning compositions (ofljóst).
