Epenthesis er gagnstaðlig sincópe, þvíat hon leggr við staf eða samstǫfu í miðju orði sem Kormákr kvað:
Þvíat málvinu minnar
mildr Þorketill vildir.
Hér er Þorketill settr fyrir Þorkell ok aukit svá tveim stǫfum nafnit en einni samstǫfu til þess at kveðandi haldiz.
Epenthesis is the opposite to syncope for it consists in addition or a letter or a syllable to the middle of a word, as Kormakr said: [...] Here Þorketill is written for Þorkell, the name being increased by two letters and one syllable, in order to keep to the correct number of syllables in the metre.
