At slíkum hætti er víða sett í skáldskap þat nafn, er ýmsar hefir merkingar, ok fólgit svá málit, sem Hallar-Steinn kvað:
Hólmleggjar vinnr hilmir
hringskǫglar mik þǫglan.
Hér kallar hann dverg lit ok svát fegrð konunnar.
In such wise a word which has various meanings is frequently used in poetry, thus obscuring the sense, as Hallar-Steinn said: [...] Here he rerers to litr ("complexion, appearance": also a heiti for dwarf) by (a kenning for) dwarf, to signify a woman's beauty.
