Iron knife

Originally, the deceased woman was probably placed in a supine position in a wooden coffin. Her legs were extended and her hands rested one over the other on the pelvis. According to an unusual custom observable in some Langeland graves, a small shell was placed behind her left ear. At some point also a knife was laid on her right arm. The woman was probably wearing a rather typical long dress (though no textile remains were identified) and had a string with two glass beads on her neck. After the body had been prepared the coffin was lowered into the grave-pit. It is unfortunately impossible to determine when the coffin-lid had been sealed. This may have happened before or after its placement in the pit.
