The versions of this stanza in Skj and Skald are problematic (see Note to st. 13 [All]). — [6-7]: These lines cannot be reconstructed, but Jón Helgason (Hl 1941) conjectures harða kníð | sneiddi skjǫld ‘forcefully waged | cut the shield’.
