Ef þik ríkir menn dæma rangliga,
lát eigi þinn hryggja hug;

ef þeir sælaz á svikum.

‘If powerful men judge you wrongly, do not let it distress your mind; the sons of men rejoice in it for a short time, if they become happy from treachery.’
Lat. parallel: (Dist. II, 14) Forti animo esto libens, cum sis damnatus inique: / nemo diu gaudet, qui iudice vincit iniquo ‘Be of strong mind with good will when you are wrongly accused; no one is happy for long who wins with an unjust judgement’.
