R. D. Fulk 2012, ‘(Biography of) Þorkell klyppr Þórðarson’ in Diana Whaley (ed.), Poetry from the Kings’ Sagas 1: From Mythical Times to c. 1035. Skaldic Poetry of the Scandinavian Middle Ages 1. Turnhout: Brepols, p. 268.
This skald (Þklypp) is known only through the incident to which his sole lausavísa is attached, and saga chronology would place this in the 970s (e.g. Hkr 1991, I, 144-5). Þorkell is said to have been a hersir in Hǫrðaland (Hordaland), and son of the famous Þórðr Hǫrða-Kárason. The nickname is recorded as klyppr in Flat, but kleypr (ms. ‘clꜹpr’) in Ágr, and is of uncertain meaning, but possibly ‘Thick-set’ (Lind 1920-1, 205). In Fsk and Hkr, Klyppr is a given name rather than a nickname.
