[1] gekkt ‘you (sg.) went’: The ms. reading is gekk þú: such strong verb forms of the 2nd pers. sg. pret. as gekk appear without the ending -t when the pers. pron. þú follows immediately afterward, as here (ANG §534.2d). Since the reading gekk þú produces a seven-syllable l. Skj B and Skald normalise to gekkt (the whole st. is evidently addressed to John in the 2nd pers. sg., cf. stótt þú l. 6 in the second helmingr).
