[9] þveita (f.) ‘hewer’: The word, which is not otherwise attested as a heiti for ‘axe’ in Old Norse, is derived from the weak verb þveita ‘hew, cut’; hence ‘hewer, cutter’ (Falk 1914b, 115). It is possible that the heiti was used in the rímur (see Finnur Jónsson 1926-8: þveita 2).
