[7] af ... valdr ‘through ... chosen’: See NN §1720. Finnur Jónsson (Skj B) emends af to at and translates: derfor blev guddommens vidne mægtig til kraftige gærninger ‘therefore the witness of divinity became capable of mighty deeds’ (= ‘responsible for, the cause of’?; cf. Blöndal: valdur 1. vera v. að e-u). But emendation is unnecessary if valdr is taken as the p.p. of velja ‘to choose’. With af gjörðum Kock compares Hhund I 41/5 af firinvercom ‘through wicked deeds’.
