Eysteinn was the eldest son of Magnús berfœttr (see Genealogy II.3 in ÍF 28). When his father died in 1103, he was elected king of Norway and ruled jointly with his half-brothers, Sigurðr and Óláfr (d. 1115). Eysteinn died of an illness on 29 August 1123.
