Það var um veturinn að maður spurði Eirík skáld að atburðum
og hversu mikið mannfall yrði.

Hann kvað vísu:

Lágu lýðar frægir

lögðis skeiðs á heiði,

lind sprakk í rym randa

rauð, ellefu dauðir.

Hitt var áðr, er auðar

ógnar gims í rimmu,

jókum sókn við sæki

sárþíslar, fékk Gísli.

Enn verður þess dæmi að nú var spurt hve margir fallnir voru
af hvorum.

Hann kvað vísu:

Þrír hafa alls af óru

ítrstalls liði fallið,

vér ruðum sverð í sárum,

sigrborðs viðir norðan.

En fúrþollar fellu

Fjölnis seiðs á heiði,

gerðist grimmt með fyrðum

gunnél, níu sunnan.

Þá verður um rætt að mjög hefði á vegist þeirra lið,
sunnanmanna.

Þá kvað hann vísu:

Styrr lét snar og Snorri

sverðþing háið verða,

þar er gnýverðir gerðu

Gíslunga hlut þungan.

En varð eigi in minna

ættskarð, það er hjó Barði,

fell geysla lið Gísla,

gunnnárunga sunnan.
