Svo segja menn að Sveinn konungur sat í Danmörk þann vetur og
hélt ríki sínu sem áður. Hann sendi menn um veturinn norður á
Halland eftir Karli og þeim hjónum. En er þau komu til
konungs þá kallar hann Karl til sín. Síðan spurði konungur ef
Karl kenndi hann eða þættist séð hafa hann fyrr.

Karl svarar: "Kenni eg þig nú konungur og kenndi eg þig fyrr
þegar eg sá þig og er það guði að þakka er þér kom til gagns
sá litli forbeini er eg veitti þér."

Konungur svarar: "Alla þá daga er eg lifi síðan á eg þér að
launa. Nú skal það hið fyrsta að eg gef þér bú það á Sjálandi
er þú kýst þér og það með að eg skal gera þig mikinn mann ef
þú kannt það með höndum hafa."

Karl þakkaði konungi vel orð sín og segir að "enn er eftir
bæn sú er eg vil biðja."

Konungur spurði hvað það væri.

Karl segir: "Eg vil biðja þess að þú konungur látir mig hafa
með mér konu mína."

Konungur segir svo: "Það mun eg þér eigi veita því að eg skal
fá þér miklu betri konu og vitrari. En kona þín fari með
búkot það er þið hafið áður haft. Það mun henni
framflutning."

Konungur gaf Karli mikið bú og göfuglegt, fékk honum gott
kvonfang og varð hann þá mikill maður fyrir sér. Varð það
frægt og spurðist víða. Það kom norður í Noreg.
