[7-8]: Cf. Vsp 24/1-2 (NK 6): Fleygði Óðinn | oc í fólc um scaut ‘Óðinn let fly [a spear] and shot [it] into the troop’. There are a number of examples of Óðinn consecrating an enemy army to himself by shooting a spear over their troop, or of human participants consecrating an army to Óðinn by doing the same: see e.g. Eyrb ch. 44 (ÍF 4, 122): En er flokkrinn Snorra gekk neðan skriðuna, þá skaut Steinþórr spjóti at fornum sið til heilla sér yfir flokk Snorra ‘And when Snorri’s troop went up the scree, Steinþórr shot a spear over Snorri’s troop for luck according to the ancient custom’. See also ARG II, 49 (§376), Turville-Petre (1964, 47). Line 7 is unmetrical with svá Óðinn being extrametrical.
